Gold IRA Companies in Texas: Storage and Quote Checks

Texas residents can compare national Gold IRA dealers, but a Texas address does not establish better prices or automatic access to a Texas vault. The useful local test is whether the dealer, IRA trustee and storage facility support the same documented arrangement. The Texas Bullion Depository’s IRA page names Equity Trust in its getting-started instructions and warns that standard public storage fees may not apply to IRA assets.90

This is a Texas-specific storage and quote comparison, not a statewide assets-under-management ranking. A company’s address alone does not establish its selected vault, IRA terms or future buyback price.

Texas Bullion Depository Is a Storage Arrangement, Not a Dealer Ranking

The depository’s official IRA instructions explain that its operator, Lone Star Tangible Assets LP, obtained IRS nonbank-trustee approval in 2023. They direct consumers to coordinate the dealer and Equity Trust for delivery/storage, and state that IRA storage fees are usually negotiated among the custodian, dealer and operator. The site’s ordinary retail storage tariff is therefore not an IRA all-in account quote. These disclosures were reviewed October 12, 2026.90

Its current FAQ describes segregated storage, returning the same deposited metals, and locates the facility in Leander. That is this facility’s described service, not a legal guarantee of unlimited insurance, bankruptcy priority or a metal price floor. Read the governing agreement and insurance terms for your particular account.81

Texas storage questionEvidence to obtainWhat not to infer
Is my trustee supported?Written trustee/depository acceptanceA dealer’s “Texas storage” headline is not acceptance
What is the IRA rate?Named custodian/operator scheduleThe general retail tariff is not necessarily applicable
Which products are accepted?Product-specific approval and invoiceA Texas commemorative product is not automatically IRA-eligible
Is storage segregated?Applicable agreement and inventory recordDo not import another vault’s pooled-storage definition
Can I receive metal personally?Authorized distribution instructionsBeing nearby does not create tax-free personal pickup inside the IRA

Dated Provider Disclosures for Texas Storage

The disclosures below are dated October 12, 2026 and describe the published arrangement, not guaranteed availability of Texas storage. Use the named source and written account agreement before committing.

DealerDocumented pricing shapeTexas-specific follow-up
AugustaFAQ states $50 setup, $125 annual custody and $110 annual storage/insurance: $285 first year, $235 thereafterAsk whether the proposed trustee and vault permit the Texas arrangement; do not assume the FAQ prices cover it.101
BirchPrice-page Equity Trust/Delaware example: $50 setup, $30 wire and $235 annual chargesIts cited example is Delaware, not a Texas-depository quote; obtain a separate named-storage quote.102
NobleGold IRA page states $20,000 minimum; the IRA page and support page describe different storage-related chargesCompare the two selected arrangements rather than reusing a cash-purchase minimum; neither disclosure establishes this Texas vault’s rate.110, 111
American Hartford GoldFAQ states $10,000 IRA minimum and storage fees varying with account size and holdingsConfirm the actual Texas facility and trustee in writing; the FAQ does not establish a universal annual storage bill.109
LearFAQ states $315 first year and $235 thereafter with electronic statements and non-segregated storage; different options may cost moreThat disclosed selection is not a segregated Texas-depository quote. Obtain matching terms before comparing it with the Texas arrangement.105

For Noble/AHG’s exact current disclosures and unresolved billing distinctions, use the provider fee comparison. No unknown shipping, wire or future repurchase amount is filled in as zero. The broad company shortlist evaluates company-level fit separately from this Texas storage question.

Texas Sales Tax Is Not IRA Distribution Tax

Texas HB 78, effective October 1, 2013, amended Tax Code section 151.336’s sales/use-tax exemption for specified coins and platinum, gold or silver bullion and removed the prior transaction threshold. The official enrolled bill is the historical enactment source, not a new 2026 IRA rollover exemption.98

The depository’s current page also describes precious-metal purchase tax advantages. Do not extend those statements to every product, every delivery location or federal retirement-account income tax. Ask the seller how the exact purchase and delivery are treated; an IRA’s eligible-metal list and a state’s sales-tax exemption serve different purposes.90, 51

Receiving an IRA distribution remains a federal tax question. A traditional IRA payment can be taxable even when a qualifying bullion purchase was exempt from sales tax. Moving storage to Texas does not convert pre-tax retirement money into Roth money.5

Hypothetical Retail Storage Math—Not an IRA Rate

The depository’s public retail pricing page, reviewed October 12, 2026, lists a 0.49% annual rate for the lowest value tier and a $25 quarterly minimum. With an invented constant $100,000 average value, 0.49% implies $490 per full year before other applicable retail fees. That multiplication is useful only for the specified retail assumptions.80

It should not be presented as the charge for an Equity Trust metals IRA: the IRA page expressly says standard storage fees may not apply. Obtain the IRA-specific schedule, then calculate it independently. Do not combine the illustrative $490 with a custodian’s bundled storage charge and count storage twice.90

A Texas Resident’s Due-Diligence Packet

Keep the receiving trustee agreement; source-account rollover instructions; dealer legal identity; exact-product quote and bid; selected Texas or non-Texas vault agreement; product eligibility approval; fee schedule; and delivery/distribution rules. Preserve spouse/beneficiary records and obtain legal review where marital ownership is disputed. This guide does not determine a spouse’s share in a divorce or claim a Texas vault removes all regulatory or operational risk.

For old quarter-specific commentary, the Q2 2026 archive retains its historical scope rather than giving a current buy-now instruction. Geography, quarter-end and a dealer promotion should not replace the eligibility and contract checks.

Receiving Metals: Eligibility and Custody Are Separate Checks

For bullion, section 408(m) ties the exception to the contract-market minimum fineness and the physical possession of a bank or IRS-approved nonbank trustee. CME’s contract rules specify gold at 0.995 and silver at 0.999.51, 64, 65 Platinum and palladium each use 0.9995 in their respective contract chapters. The gold minimum is not 0.9995.66, 67

Specifically enumerated coins have a separate statutory exception; fineness alone is not a complete product approval list. Have the receiving custodian confirm the exact product, mint/refiner, denomination and acceptable documentation before an order is placed. The eligible-metals guide explains both statutory routes.51

The IRS IRA FAQs say the trustee-possession requirement for highly refined bullion also applies when an IRA-owned LLC buys it. Forming an LLC does not establish a home-storage safe harbor. Arrange custodian-authorized delivery to the selected storage facility, not personal delivery while claiming the metal remains inside the IRA.7

Keep the trade confirmation, invoice, storage selection, receipt and inventory record together. Those documents establish the chain from IRA cash to the actual product received. Insurance language should be read with the applicable policy and agreement; it is not protection against falling metal prices or proof of a guaranteed resale bid.

Separate Account Charges From the Metal Quote

The dealer supplies a product quote, the custodian administers the IRA, and the depository holds metal under its agreement. The SEC’s self-directed IRA warning explains that custodians generally do not evaluate an investment’s quality or legitimacy. A custodian accepting a purchase is not an endorsement of its price or suitability.40

Ask for one written worksheet covering setup, custody, selected storage, wires, transactions, sale, transfer, distribution and closure. Specify whether fees are paid from IRA cash or separately, when recurring billing starts, and whether a waiver expires. An undisclosed amount is unknown, not zero. Compare the same product and quantity, with a purchase quote and a same-time executable dealer bid; the bid is not assumed to equal spot.

Our fee definitions and cost arithmetic explain billing and denominators; the dated provider fee comparison distinguishes published schedules, examples and conflicting disclosures. Neither the IRS rollover rules nor a tax-free movement guarantees a cost-free account.

For illustration only, a hypothetical $50 setup, $30 initial wire and $235 annual custody-plus-storage charge total $315 in the first full year and $1,255 over five full years if the schedule stays unchanged. That excludes product-price differences, extra activity, exit charges, taxes and returns. It is not an industry average or any provider’s all-in quote. If the purchase costs $52,500 and the same-day bid is $49,000, the separate $3,500 purchase-to-bid gap is 6.67% of the purchase price, not 7%; the denominator matters.

A useful next step is to obtain the itemized account schedule and exact-product bid before signing an irreversible order. The CFTC/FINRA advisory identifies inflated pricing and pressure tactics as precious-metals red flags; a deadline created by a salesperson is not an IRS deadline.39

If the next step is funding from another retirement account, the Gold IRA rollover guide explains the source-specific movement. That funding process is separate from the asset, tax or distribution question discussed here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does living in Texas require a Texas Gold IRA dealer?

No such requirement is established by the sources here. The receiving trustee and selected facility must accept the account and products; national dealer branding does not settle those facts.

Can I apply the Texas Bullion Depository retail rate to an IRA?

Not automatically. Its IRA page says the rate is usually negotiated among the parties and the standard website tariff may not apply.Texas Bullion Depository IRA storage

Does a Texas sales-tax exemption eliminate IRA withdrawal tax?

No. Purchase sales tax and federal traditional/Roth distribution tax are separate. Traditional distributions are generally taxable to the extent taxable after basis and exclusions.IRS Publication 590-B (2025)
